Isolation in Internet Marketing

By Jeanette Cates | August 18, 2008

Having an Online Business is a great way to make a living for a variety of reasons. Yet many people don’t make it with marketing online because they forget to take care of one important key to online success – networking with other people!

Being the “Boss” of your own online business is great. And once you become successful with IM, often you can quit you 9-5 job and begin to work from home. That’s when the real fun begins because you are now able to set your own hours, take breaks and vacations when you want – really live the Internet Lifestyle that you imagined. You don’t have to worry about impressing or answering to anyone else. But this sometimes becomes a problem.

You can easily become so entrenched in “doing your own thing” that you forget about interacting with other people.

It’s not long before you realize you are out of touch with new trends. You miss talking with other people.

I’ve found a couple of ways to solve this isolationism that we’ve all experienced:

1. Attend Seminars in a Live Envirnoment

Nothing is more stimulating that spending several days among people who think like you do, who live and breathe the same dreams, who understand your technical language. Two of my favorite events are Big Seminar and the Internet Marketing Superconference.

2. Stay in touch with friends online

Email, instant messaging and twitter are my favorite methods for keeping up with online friends. In just a few minutes every few days we can catch up and watch what one another is doing. This is great followup to the live events we all attend.

3. Make new friends online

I like forums that cater to the Internet Marketing crowds. Here you’ll find tons of helpful information and others of a similiar mindset. You’ll find out you’re not the only one who has a particular problem – and you’ll also see what products others are recommending before you spend your hard-earned dollars.

Forums are also extremely good for building your reputation online. You can refer people to your websites through your signature file. Plus you can often offer your products and services in the marketplaces associated with forums.

If you’d like a slick tool to make networking on forums a lot easier then check out Russell Brunson’s Forum Fortunes software.

Start today to break out of your shell – and start networking more with your fellow marketers. The next time you want to put together a list of potential Joint Venture partners, you’ll find a ready group of friends who are anxious to promote your next product.
